How the EU plans to wreck alternative health

Wednesday, August 25, 2010

Within two years, alternative medicine will be a shadow of its current self. By then - thanks to four laws being ratified by the European Union right now - only low-dose vitamins will be available on the shelves, most Chinese and Ayurvedic herbs will have disappeared, and many herbal practitioners in the UK may well have gone out of business.

Will complementary therapies be next.?
This is why it is essential that we make sure that we have a curriculum and a exam process that cannot be challenged by the EU.

Yes! folks this is really happening. Legislation is defiantly on the way.
Protect yourselves and your profession by getting ahead of the legislation.

CRANIOSACRAL THERAPY and Light Appliances in Dentistry

Monday, July 19, 2010

For many years there has been a recognition of the craniosacral rhythm, maxillary and mandibular re-positioning and whole body approach by dentists the world over in relation to their day to day work as dentists. Where crowding of teeth in the upper or lower jaws occurs the former practise of extraction has been modified to time taken to adjust the position of the teeth and by extention the maxillae and the mandible where appropriate. Custom-made light appliances are put in place by the dentist, checked and adjusted regularly over a period of months until the final positioning is completed.

As a craniosacral therapist I have the good fortune to work with some teenagers who are going through the process. I facilitate the body to prepare for the adjustments and support them through the changes such as vaulted upper palate, pelvic unilateral rotation that may manifest in the jaw as asymmetry and crowding of teeth and so forth. Sphenobasilar joint (Sutherland's lesions) and maxillary-vomer-palatine are but some parts of the body that are addressed by the caniosacral therapist in the process. Anecdotetally, some dentists recognise that their time taken on an individual is decreased by months when craniosacral therapy regularly accompanies the dental adjustments. There is an opportunity for documentation as the numbers of patients receiving light appliance corrective dental work and craniosacral therapy simultaneously increases.

Annually I invite a local dentist Mike Cronin to address the Study Group I run, when the participants have reached at least CSTII level in their training. Let me know if you have an interest in being part of such a day and I will schedule accordingly. Mike has many years of experience and has trained and worked in Ireland, USA and England. He meets with the group for an hour approximately. Mike has an informal but very informative approach to his way of working with awareness of the craniosacral system.

EXCITING NEWS FOR CRANIOSACRAL THERAPY AND NURSING/MIDWIFERY

Tuesday, July 13, 2010

CRANIOSACRAL THERAPY has been part of the Module for Complementary Therapy offered to Final Year Nursing students at University College Cork since 2008. Twenty five 4th Year Nursing students from Midwifery, General, Mental Health and Disability/Special Needs have been choosing this module since the module was first introduced in the year beginning 2007. The co-ordinator, Anna O'Leary and her team have carefully selected a variety of therapies that are integrated with orthodox medicine/nursing, facilitating an introductory class for nursing students close to their completion of initial training. Evaluation by students, teachers and the facilitator team allows for tailor-made content and an approach designed to need. Specific goals linked to learning outcomes are set down by the faculty from the onset. Midwifery in particular is well-represented at the class. Planning is underway for this module to be made available to post-graduate nursing students in the near future subject to funding.
As a Science graduate of UCC, I am excited and honoured to be available to give something in return. Student nurses have shown passion and enthusiasm to learn something of the therapies such as CranioSacral Therapy and agree there are many applications in their fields. Though the input is limited to two hours annually, the scope for introducing this adaptable and rapidly expanding body therapy, CranioSacral therapy is expansive and rewarding.

All the best Anne Cronin BSc., H.Dip. Ed. CST
